Clay Christmas – make your own gifts & decorations
Blink your eyes a few times and here’s how fast Christmas seems to sneak up on you! It’ll be here before you know it, and if you like to make your own presents and decorations, the sooner you start the better. This year the Studio@Clapham is offering a fun ‘Make Your Own Ceramic Christmas Ornaments” workshop. Ornaments you create yourself make great gifts for teachers and friends, stocking stuffers and keepsakes for years to come.
For the workshop, you get a choice of porcelain or terracotta paperclay to use. You can either roll it out flat and cut your own ornaments or use it to make 3D pieces such as angels and tea light holders, the possibilities are endless.
There will be a selection of cookie cutters to cut out shapes and even more interesting textures and tools you can press / cut into the clay to add interesting surface decorations. Feel free to bring your own cookie cutters or textures to use. Ornaments can also be decorated using a variety of coloured clay slip and underglazes.
Most people will make about 10 – 12 itemss. When you finish making your ornaments, they will be left to dry and then be bisque fired. They will then be given a transparent glaze and fired again.
All tools and materials are provided. An apron or appropriate clothes are advised. Please bring along your own packed lunch. Water, Tea and Coffee are provided.
