Ever fancied making a pot by throwing it on the Pottery Wheel? You could have your own version of the Great Pottery Throwdown! The pots featured in this photograph were the made by Complete Beginners Cathryn (8) and Philly (12) in a 1/2 day session.
Ideal for complete beginners who want to experience the very basic techniques of throwing on the potter’s wheel.
The Full day will cover the following elements:
– Clay preparation
– Centring the clay
– Throwing cylinders with the aim of producing forms of even thickness.
– Wiring pots off the wheel
– Slip Decoration
– Trimming Pots
– Pulling a Handle
There is a maximum of two places available to book for this course per workshop, giving the opportunity for really focused tuition. You will be provided with all materials and an apron to wear on the day. All materials are included in the price of the workshop, including the glazing and firing of the work. On average complete beginners make 2-3 pieces in a half-day session. A choice of a basic matt white or blue glaze is given for decorating all thrown pots, unless you prefer to paint/decorate your own pieces on the Glazing Workshop which is available separately. You will be informed when your finished work is ready for collection at a later date.
